Our Treatment Modalities
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consists of four main branches: Acupuncture, Herbology (which also includes Food Therapy), Qigong, and Chinese massage. It is a time-tested, 3,000+ year-old comprehensive system for the assessment, treatment, and prevention of acute and chronic diseases. TCM represents a combination of ideas, discoveries, and methods from earlier times coupled with findings from modern research which uses chemical and pharmacological analysis along with clinical trials and case studies done here in the United States and around the world.
Over two thousand years ago, Chinese medical sages discovered that the body's vital energy circulates in clearly defined pathways, which they called meridians or channels. They also discovered certain points along these channels that can influence and redirect the energy to flow in different intensities and directions, affecting the various organs, tissues, and vital substances of the body. The tradition of Acupuncture continues to evolve to this very day, based on an unbroken written and oral tradition dating back to these early times.
The practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine dates back approximately 4000 years, providing an unbroken lineage of medical knowledge and wisdom. Currently, the Chinese pharmacopeia contains documented effects and medicinal uses of over 5,000 individual plant, mineral, and animal substances. These substances are then combined into formulas where the herbs have synergistic effects that increase their potency and effectiveness. The combinations of herbs are also designed to reduce and even eliminate side-effects that are often associated with the Western pharmaceuticals used in modern medicine today.
The word "Qigong", literally translated from Chinese, means "Skill with Vital Energy". It is a highly refined system of exercises and meditations that develop our ability to acquire, store, circulate, and purify our Qi (Vital Energy). Through diligent practice of Qigong, we learn how to use our mind as a tool to direct the flow of electrical signals and energetic currents that comprise the integrated matrix of our body, mind, and emotions. This can lead to a greater sense of mastery over our mental, physical, and emotional health, as well as greater resistance to everyday stresses and disease.
